I’m really trying to make an effort to illustrate more often. Even if its just a rough sketch. I just want to get out of the computer and use real, raw materials. (Its funny how even a pen can become so “raw” when working all day on the computer).
These are some rough sketches I did for Sandals Church a while back for their “stories” series. This one was on Rahab the prostitue. An amazing story about a remarkable woman.

This is War

My church, Sandals is in the middle of a Christmas seies called “This is War” based of a song by Thrice’s Dustin Kensrue, called This is War.  One might think, why are they doing a war- themed series during a time of happy holidays?

We are in a daily war against our sinful nature, good vs. evil, truth vs. lies.  We want to fight for good, but it is a tough fight. You can read more about the series here.

I have really been enjoying the series and was able to participate in creating the visuals in the new Sandals church building (stoked!) Many “war posters” are hung up all over the new building- here is mine-its all about finding peace in the daily struggle we are all fighting through.  You can see that although there is war, fighting and darkness surrounding her, she stands firm and beautiful, looking forward.  She is not lost in the fight, she is standing in peace.

I find that it is extremely hard, especially as women, not to worry and be anxious.  We tend to stress out and get lost in our own emotions when there is a lot going on around us.  It is a desire of ours to be in control of everything (and sometimes everyone) around us.  But the truth is, we are not in control.  And when we are able to let go of our controlling desires, and be at peace with the people and things around us, (even when they are not ideal) then we can find peace.

Here are a few shots of the posters hanging at Sandals:

I am blessed to be apart of such a great church with talented, passionate people.  You can check out Sandals website here, where you can listen to the podcasts of the series.  (Sooo good! I definitely recommend taking a listen!)

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone! I hope you are able to find great peace and joy throughout your day :)

Christmas Cards!

I know we’re not in December yet, but in my world, the Christmas season starts November 1st.  Yes- its that time of year to be filled with cheer, and of course, send out Christmas cards! There are so many great Christmas card designs I’ve been seeing lately, and I wanted to share with you my finds and where to get them.

These cards are from Tiny Prints.com, designed by Joy Cho from Oh Joy!  Shes a great designer and has tons of cute cards selling at Tiny Prints.  Definitely check them out- TIny Prints also has a ton of other great cards done by other designers, so browsing this site is really fun!

Minted has definitely been getting the blog press lately- and thats because its awesome! WIth tons of well designed Christmas cards throughout the site, you are bound to find one you love.  I loved the idea of doing a Christmas card with your pets as the main subject- soo great!

I am totally in love with the illustrations on these cards from Lagom Design. I stumbled upon their site from the blog Creature Comforts, and instantly took a liking to their stuff.  These are my favorites out of the Christmas Card finds, but there are many others to look at there so browse around and see what you find!  How cute is that reindeer??

Sending out Christmas cards is fun and always brings a little bit of cheer to the person you are sending them to.  Who doesn’t like getting something thats not a bill, credit card offer or advertisement in their mailbox? Getting a physical card in the mail is more rare these days, and I know everyone appreciates the gesture.

Hope you enjoy these!  Have a great Tuesday everyone!
